Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has congratulated former Inspector General of Police, Musiliu Smith on his confirmation as the Chairman of the Police Service Commission.
Smith was confirmed by the Senate alongside six other members of the Commission, following the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, presented by the Chairman, Abu Ibrahim.
Governor Ambode described Smith’s confirmation by the Senate as a step in the right direction, saying he would bring his wealth of experience to bear in reforming the Nigeria Police to be more effective, efficient and performance driven.
Ambode said this was a good step by President Muhammadu Buhari and he had no doubt in his mind that Smith appointment would provide the necessary leadership that would not only reposition the Police Force to provide top notch security for Nigerians but also sharpen its image.
Smith, is a retired Inspector-General of Police who retired from service in twenty-zero-two, following a police strike.
He was appointed a month ago by President Buhari and would take over from Mike Okiro, who was also a former Inspector-General of Police.
