The Police Command in Borno State has deployed about five thousand policemen to ensure adequate security in the state during the Eid-El-Fitr celebration.
Commissioner of Police, Damian Chukwu said this at a news briefing, saying the personnel were drawn from the Explosive Ordinance Device unit, the police intelligence unit among others.
Chukwu said conventional policemen would also be deployed in worship centres and places of social gathering during the celebration.
He said units of Federal Anti-Robbery Squad with armoured vehicles and sniffer dogs, would be stationed in the most strategic places to prevent crime and other social vices.
Chukwu cautioned residents to ensure that they observe their Eid prayer in one of the 16 designated worship centers approved by the government.
“This is to enable the police provide protection to everybody, instead of having people praying in isolation,” he said.
He also warned youth against forming unnecessary crowd while welcoming politicians to avoid unnecessary stampede and terrorists’ infiltration.
Chukwu said the show of force displayed by men of the command was to rekindle the confidence of the people that the police were equal to the task of providing absolute protection for their lives and properties.
In Bayelsa State, the Police Command has called for active support of the traditional institutions to community policing, saying such backing was pertinent to secure lives and property.
Police Commissioner, Don Awunah made the called in Sagbama, Sagbama Local Government Area of the state, where he kicked off his familiarisation tour of police area commands in the state.
The commissioner, who visited the palace of traditional rulers and the council chairman in the area, said the essence of the tour was to interact with the stakeholders on community policing.
He described traditional institution as “critical stakeholder” to law enforcement and called for their active support to ensure crime prevention and control processes in the state.
In Jigawa State, the Police Command assured residents of the state of adequate security during the forthcoming Eid-El-Fitr celebration.
The command’s spokesperson, Abdu Jinjiri, who gave the assurance in Dutse, saying the command had taken proactive measures to ensure a hitch-free and peaceful celebration in the state.
Jinjiri, a Superintendent of Police said the command had increased its patrol teams on major roads in order to maintain law and order during the festive period.
“Adequate personnel will be stationed at prayer grounds, durbar routes, children’s parks and other places of public interest,” he said.
Jinjiri said police personnel would also be deployed to strategic locations in the state including suspected crime spots.
According to him, mobile and conventional policemen had been put on alert at the command’s headquarters in case of eventualities.
Jinjiri further said that the command had already issued “Operational Order” to all its divisions and units concerning the celebration.
