Tsamiya community in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Thursday donated office and housing accommodation to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.
The building was constructed under the support and leadership of retired Justice Ladan Tsamiya, who is also the District Head of the area.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, who inaugurated the buildings, lauded the donor, saying it would facilitate security in the state.
Tambuwal, who was represented by Commissioner for Water Resources, Arzuka Tureta, advised wealthy individuals and communities to emulate the Tsamiya community’s gesture by complementing the government’s security efforts in the state.
He pledged more support to NSCDC and other security organisations in the state, urging them to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities.
Assistant Commandant General, Isimi Abosede, in-charge of Zone “D” Command of the Corps, who represented the Commandant General, Gana Muhammad, said the donation would enhance the agency’s activities.
Gana described the gesture as distinct and timely in recognition of the logistic challenges being faced by the organisation.
The commandant general assured that the facilities would be used to tackle security challenges in the area.
Sokoto State Commandant of NSCDC, Babangida Dutsinma, said security should be a collective concern to all citizens in the state.
He urged the people to continue to support the Corps’ personnel, to enable them perform their duties effectively in the state.
Dutsinma attributed the donation, along with many others, to the success of Operation Harmony, introduced by the state government to tackle cattle rustling, kidnapping and other crimes.
Earlier, Justice Tsamiya said the community had records of dangerous animals attacking people during the tenure of his forefathers, adding that the problem was tackled through community efforts.
He said at present, some bandits that were chased away from Katsina and Zamfara states used Tsamiya community as their hideouts.
The community leader said with increased government’s efforts, no fewer than 35 cattle rustlers and other crime perpetrators were arrested and prosecuted.
According to him, with such threats, the community deemed it fit to construct security outpost to complement government’s efforts.
He said Police outpost and residential apartments were earlier donated to the police in Tsamiya through communal efforts
