Nigeria Police Force, Zone 5, Benin, on Tuesday banned the use of covered number plates by unauthorised persons.

It also, banned the use of revolving light/sirens and police spy number plates by unpermitted persons.

According to its Assistant Inspector General of Police of the Zone, Rasheed Akintunde, the use of the mentioned items was hereby banned, saying the ban followed the Inspector-General of Police directive on the flagrant abuse and serious security challenges they pose to the efforts of the police in combating crime and criminality in the zone and across the country.

Akintunde advised owners of vehicles carrying such unauthorised items to “remove them without further delay, saying the commissioners of police in the zone comprising Edo, Delta and Bayelsa, had been directed to enforce the ban in their respective commands.

He added that any person or persons caught violating the directive would be prosecuted, advising unauthorised users or holders of the police spy number plates to return them to Force Headquarters, Abuja.
