As part of the efforts to improve justice delivery, Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Opeyemi Oke, has inaugurated solar energy power at the Yaba Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
According to Oke, the new solar power source is the first of its kind in all judicial divisions in the country, saying four solar power plants were installed to power four courtrooms, chambers of the Magistrates and other offices within the complex of the Yaba Magistrates’ Court.
Oke said the Magistrates could now sit for longer hours and be more productive, because as long as there was light, the court rooms would be cool for them to work in.”
She said the new power source would help to reduce the overhead costs and enhance power usage, saying in the near future, solar energy would be used in the courts of all judicial divisions of the state.
The chief judge, while highlighting the importance of the event, said Lagos was the first to do this; we are thinking of a smart city, without a smart city, nothing can work, saying we are moving toward a cleaner energy source that has no toxic emissions.
In his remarks, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Adeniji Kazeem highlighted the commitment of government to ensure an effective justice delivery system for citizens, saying other courts in the state would soon begin to use the new power source.
He said soon, government would be extending solar energy to other courts in the state, to improve their efficiency and justice delivery.
