Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, has commenced special training for its officers and men on how to effectively secure the ranches and cattle colonies being proposed by the Federal Government across the country.
According to the Corps, the officers who were selected from across the 36 states of the federation, will undergo training on surveillance, intelligence gathering, peace and conflict resolution.
Speaking at the induction of the first batch of one hundred and fifty officers for the training, its Assistant Commandant General, Adamu Soja, said the training would adequately build the capacity of the benefiting officers in their duty of protecting farmlands and ranches from the nefarious activities of rustlers and other militia groups.
Soja said the officers at the end of their training would be deployed to farmers and pastorates on request, as well as government-owned cattle colonies, ranches and grazing reserves.
He said the deployment of the personnel to the proposed ranches and grazing reserves was part of measures being put in place by government to tackle the incessant conflicts between farmers and herders that left several people dead in most parts of the country.
The Assistant Commandant General, said the project tagged ‘Federal Government Agro-Rangers Scheme’, was an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture and that of Interior in collaboration with the Corps.
