Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Muhammadu, has lauded the British High Commission Counter Terrorism Unit partnership with the NSCDC, says, the relationship is a great boost that will assist the Corps in attaining greater heights in the discharge of the organization’s mandate.

Muhammadu made this remark during the courtesy visit by the Counter Terrorism Unit of the British High Commission Abuja, at the NSCDC National Headquarters, Sauka, Abuja.

Leader of the Team, James McCormick, Head of the Counter-Terrorism Unit accompanied by Michael Askew from the British High Commission noted, that they came to foster a robust relationship with the NSCDC in the area of security bordering on Counter-Terrorism and how best the Personnel can discharge their mandate during field operations.

Muhammadu who was highly delighted about the visit, informed the guests that the mandate of the Corps is to protect the Critical infrastructure and National Assets in Nigeria, saying the Corps also carries out duties in Disaster Management which can be as a result of natural disaster occurrences or the activities of human beings which can result to man-made disasters.

According to him, the Corps also engages in mitigation and reconciliation activities between individuals engaged in any form of conflict through the Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanism.

He revealed that the Corps has over 300 Chartered Mediators licensed by the United Nations. Also, the NSCDC has succeeded in establishing PEACE CLINICS in crisis affected States and organised stakeholders forum in the North East for the purpose of de-radicalizing and reintegrating the Boko Haram members who willingly lay down their arms surrendering to the Military authorities.

The Private Guard Company again, is the sole responsibility of the NSCDC to register, regulate, licence the PGCs in Nigeria, and also, see to the training of the Private Guard Personnel nationwide.

He said that the synergy between the NSCDC and the Military, especially, during field operations was very cordial, affirming that the Military has been in the Vanguard of given very sound training to the Personnel of the Civil Defence.

The Leader of the Civil Defence asserted, ”As I speak with you, the NSCDC Personnel are on ground occupying the liberated areas by the Military in the North East. As the Military is winning the war, so also, the NSCDC is winning the Peace.”

The Corps helmsman, maintained that the Federal Government is doing well for the Corps, but that International Partners are very welcomed to assist the Corps in the area of training of the NSCDC Personnel to enhance their capability in carrying out both simple and arduous tasks in Nigerian State.

He requested for security facilities and equipment that will aid the Personnel in the discharge of the NSCDC mandate nationwide.
