The Presidency has assured Nigerians that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration does not lack the capacity to protect them.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, gave the assurance on Tuesday in a short video posted on Twitter.
Reacting to attacks in Benue and Rivers states, as well as other parts of the country, Adesina said: “This government does not lack the capacity to protect them. This government will protect Nigerians.”
Since the beginning of 2018, dozens of people were killed in recent attacks on communities in Logo and Guma LGAs of Benue, as well as the Omoku killings of Rivers.
The President’s spokesman said the attacks are regrettable but going forward, the government would ensure justice is done swiftly as it has been done to the mastermind of the Omoku killings.
According to him, eight people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the Benue killings and are already before the courts.
He further assured the people of Benue that the Federal Government would ensure the law takes its course on them if found culpable.
“They (the suspects) will have their days in court and if they are found guilty, the law will take its course. So, I want Nigerians to be assured that the law is there,” said Adesina.
On the Omoku killings, he said the hunting and killing of the mastermind by the military has sent a strong warning to evil perpetrators that they cannot go scot free.
