Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised road users across the country to avoid night traveling in order to promote safer road during and after the Yuletide.

Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, gave the advice on Thursday during the launching of the 2017 Operation Zero Traffic Crash campaign for Christmas and New Year in Yenagoa.

The programme tagged: “Right to Life on the Highway Non Negotiable”, was to educate all road users on the need to drive to stay alive.

Oyeyemi, who spoke through the Corps’ Zonal Head of Operations, Jones Malomo, said night traveling was dangerous and urged the motoring public to avoid it.

He reiterated commitment of the Corps to safety of lives and property on the highways and urged all drivers to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations on the use of roads.

“This year, we don’t want to carry blood or conduct mass burial caused by road crashes; if you drive carelessly and kill souls, road will still be there.

“Speeding kills faster than diseases, drive to stay alive and support campaign on zero traffic crash,” he said.

Corps Bayelsa Sector Commander, Ikechukwu Igwe said the programme was necessary to strategise operations during and after the Christmas and New Year festivals.

Igwe called on the stakeholders, including the All Keke Riders Association of Nigeria, Driving School Operators and Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) to support the corps campaign on zero traffic crash.

He decried the spate of over loading among Tricycle Operators in the state and warned that the corps would not allow any offender arrested to go unpunished.
