The task of crime fighting, prevention and prosecution reqiure special skills, tactics and training to succeed.

Therefore, for modern day crime investigators to perform their duties effectively and efficiently, sufficient training must be given to them regularly to sharpen their investigation.

According to Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, this is why some police officers from the rank of Corporal to Chief Superintendent of Police are presently undergoing an eight day crime scene investigating training course at the police training school, Ikeja.

Idris who spoke through Deputy Inspector General of Police – Training, Emmanuel Nyang said the basic raw materials for forensic analysis in crime investigation were obtained at the crime scene.

Nyang urged all participating officers to pay rapt attention to the training programme, to acquire the latest investigation skills and assimilate new techniques in crime scene investigation, as this would enhance their capacity building and improve their performances on the field.

Deputy Project Manager, German Development Co-operation, Harmut Zander called on officers and men of the Nigeria Police to take crime scene management seriously, emphasising the importance of effective crime scene management.

Zander also said the importance of the training was to get accurate investigation and fair trial for suspects.

It is hoped that after the eight day training which would end on thursday nextweek, the twenty police officers from different Commands in the country would appreciate the importance of forensics, data collection, photograph and finger prints at crime scenes.
