Marking the International Peace Day, the NSCDC boss, Abdullahi Muhammadu urged Nigerians to apply the principle of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism in resolving issues that could degenerate into serious crisis in the Nation

Muhammadu while addressing the issues of peace in Nigeria and Globally, said, “there is no alternative to peace anywhere in the world and what the world need today is nothing less than peace of mind and peaceful co-existence irrespective of race, tribe, religion, language and ethnicity.”

He stressed that, keying into the program of World Peace Day, the role of the Corps towards sustainability of peace in the Country cannot be underestimated considering the fact that the Corps has been able to train over 2000 personnel as professional Peace Ambassador, Chartered Mediators and it has successfully established Alternative Dispute Resolution desk Officers in all the State Commands of the Corps across the Federation.

Muhammadu further reiterated that, in line with international best practice in promoting peace in the Nation, the Corps with the aids of some States Government have been able to established Peace Clinics in the States such as Nasarawa, Niger, Borno, Yobe, Benue, Abia and Rivers among others. in order to interface with crisis ravaging Communities by and teaching them how to live together as well as adopting peaceful means of resolving conflicts without necessarily shielding blood or going to court.

In preaching peace, the Corps carried out advocacy programs and organised town hall meetings by bringing together stakeholders such as Traditional rulers, Religious leaders, Youth leaders, Market women and various groups within the societies for a peace talk.

Muhammadu stressed that, considering the role of the Corps in Peace building via peace advocacy programs, the Corps established College for Peace, Conflict Resolution and Disaster Management studies in Katsina State for the purpose of training personnel on peace related activities.

The Corps Chief Executive in his briefing said, judging by the Corps activities in peace building in line with international rating, the Corps has resolved successfully over 2500 disputes in various Communities.

Muhammadu therefore, sue for peace in the Nation and urged all aggrieved persons in the society to always embrace peace, dialogue and seek for diplomatic ways of channelling their grievances for peaceful resolution instead of contravening the laws of the land.

The only way peace can reign is by applying the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism he noted.

Therefore, ”let us shun violence, hate speech, vandalism of Critical Infrastructure, illegal bunkering, thuggery and other social vices that are inimical to the peace of the nation by supporting the Government’s Change Agenda.
