Lagos State Government through the Public Works Corporation has begun massive rehabilitation of dilapidated roads across the State.

Special Adviser Public Works and Drainages, Temidayo Erinle said the corporation had a very long list of roads to rehabilitate and in the last few weeks flagged off with operation fix all pot-holes on the major high-ways of the state.

According to Erinle, “We have began to fix all the pot-holes in the Lagos metropolis and since the weather is a bit friendly, we decided to concentrate more on the major High-ways so that vehicular traffic will be eased- off.”

He said Governor Akinwunmi Ambode had directed that Lagos roads must be rid-off of pot-holes and the mandate would be carried out holistically.

He continued : “In the last two weeks, we have began the milling and relaying of Asphalt Premix on the Ojota-Ketu interchange while paving stones were laid on sections of roads liable to flooding along Ketu Inter-change to Ojota adding that drainage canal at Adebimpe street, Ketu has just been cleared to address the problem of flooding in that area.

Similarly, the Corporation has almost completed the laying of paving stones on Water Corporation Road (Trinity Avenue) Off Ligali Ayorinde, Victoria Island at Eti-Osa, while palliative works have also been carried out on Lagos-Badagry Expressway, (Agbara inward Aradagun) in Ojo Local Government.”

Erinle assured residents that the corporation would not leave any stone unturned to ensure that the Governor’s directive is carried out to achieve a pot-hole free Lagos.

He said other roads the corporation is presently working on include: Hakeen Balogun road in Ikeja, Akowonjo road in Alimosho, Adekunle Banjo in Magodo Phase II, Sina Ogunbanwo in Ifako-Ijaye, Ipaja road, Alagba, Agege, Obafemi Awolowo way, Ikeja, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway (Abule Egba inward Alakuko), Ikorodu road, Iju road. Ifako-Ijaye, Lagos-Badagry Expressway (Agbara to Igbo-Elerin), Oba Akran, Ikeja, Osborne road and Alfred Rewane road, Ikoyi, among others.

Incessant traffic gridlock along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway Meantime, members of the state House of Assembly, during plenary yesterday, lamented the incessant gridlock along Oshodi/Apapa road and called on relevant government agencies to restore normalcy on the road.

The ugly development was raised Under Matters of Urgent Public Importance by Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meiranda, representing Apapa Constituency I. Meiranda in her submission stated that the gridlock has a huge effect on the economy of the state and most importantly hinder workers, students and indeed residents from getting to their various destinations as scheduled.

In his contribution, Bisi Yusuf, recalled that a Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, LASTMA official was killed on that road sometime ago and advised constant monitoring of the area by relevant agencies.
“Those who are in charge of monitoring the road should intensify their efforts by ensuring that trucks and trailers are evacuated to allow for free flow of traffic on the road.

Also, Olowo suggested that the House should summon the Ministry of Works, NUPENG and LASTMA on the proper measures to curb the increasing traffic gridlock on the axis. “We are the representative of the people and I suggest we have a meeting with the representative of NUPENG in Lagos State to find a lasting solution to this problem’’ Olowo stated.

The Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa in his remarks stated that LASTMA, the agency in charge of ensuring the free flow of traffic should be alive to its responsibility, by ensuring that trucks that are parked on the road (Apapa/Oshodi) are removed immediately for easy movement of workers, traders, students and all other individuals plying the road.
