Closer cooperation between the Nigeria Police and other African countries’ police is needed to ensure effective policing of the sub-region.

According to Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, the present Nigeria Police leadership was prepared to work with any country’s police towards ensuring protection of lives and property of citizens.

Idris who made the pledge when he visited the head of Moroccan Police in Rabat, Morocco, said public involvement in security was crucial for the curtailment of criminal activities.

In his word, the police want to see a crime-free society such that law abiding citizens can always go to bed with their two eyes closed.

In a related development, Idris has pledged commitment to the welfare of personnel for enhanced productivity.

He made the pledge when he visited the Royal Police Academy in Kenitra, Morocco, saying improvement in the welfare of the policemen was critical to boost the morale of policemen.

Idris said increase in the welfare of staff will boost their morale while training, through capacity building, would enhance their performance, restating the commitment of the force toward tackling the various security challenges in the country.

He said the Police had been doing their best in tackling the security challenges and would continue to do more, promising to continue to place high premium on training and retraining of policemen for enhanced performance.

Idris said training and retraining of personnel was a necessary capacity technique for development.

The Police Chief and his team were later taking round by the Director of the Academy, Mohssine Habraji on inspection tour of the facilities, which include: forensic software, finger print laboratory, crime scene and the mounted police troop.
