Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has reiterated the commitment of the force toward securing lives and property in the country.
Idris made the pledge in Onitsha when he received five Mitsubishi pick-up patrol vans donated to the Police Commands in Anambra and Delta.
The Interfact Beverages Ltd., makers of Hero and Grand malt drinks, made the donation to the Police.
The company also donated a patrol van to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Command in the state.
Idris, who spoke through Commissioner of Police, Garba Umar, commended the company for the gesture, saying the donation would go a long way to solve part of the logistics challenges confronting the force.
He said the company’s gesture was a demonstration of its concern for the security of every member of the community.
Similarly, the Sector Commander of FRSC, Sunday Ajayi, commended the company and gave an assurance that the vehicles would be used judiciously.
Ajayi underscored the importance of collaboration between security agencies and the private sector because government alone could not fight crime.
Earlier, Legal and Corporate Affairs Director, Michael Daramola said the donation was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to the society.
Daramola said the company had empowered 50 youths with seed money under its Kick-Start programme and had also sunk boreholes in different communities in the country.
He said the vehicle donated to FRSC was to help curb reckless driving on the road.
Also, Interfact President, West Africa, Andrez Duplessis, said the company had so far donated 12 vehicles to security agencies since it started operation in Onitsha four years ago.
