Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Danmallam Mohammed, has enjoined Nigerians to live by the truth in order to ensure a corruption-free society.

Danmallam made the call at a workshop organised by the Development Education and Advocacy Resources for Africa (DEAR AFRICA) in Enugu on Sunday.

The theme of the workshop was “Evaluating the Anti-Corruption Value Chain: Accountability Pathways in the Public and Private Sectors.’’

He said there was a need for Nigerians to constantly search their consciences and tell themselves the truth at all time “since conscience is an open wound which only the truth can heal.’’

Danmallam, who was represented by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Ebere Amaraizu, also said: “There is a need for attitudinal change from the way we do or perceive things presently.

He said the workshop was apt since the issue of discourse revolves around the present vision and mission of the Federal Government; adding: “All have been enjoined to associate with the change agenda programme.’’

In an address, Head of Public Enlightenment, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Enugu Zone, Chris Oluka urged Nigerians to shun corruption.

Oluka pointed out that the commission, as an anti-corruption agency, had been involving itself in an aggressive campaign to educate citizens on the dangers of corruption.

Speaking on the theme, the Coordinator of DEAR AFRICA, Kene Onukwube, said the workshop was organised to boost the understanding and participation of Nigerians in the anti-corruption campaign.

Corruption was one of the root causes of our extreme poverty, current conflict and unwarranted state fragility,” Onukwube said.

According to him, the corrosive effects of corruption could be seen in business practices, economic policies and social development.

The workshop witnessed huge attendance by stakeholders from the public and private sectors.
