Twenty-three Nigerians have been deported by the Spanish Government for committing various offences in the country.

They were deported barely five days after thirty-four Nigerians were sent home from six European countries for committing immigration-related offences.

The new set of deportees who arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, comprised twenty-one males and two females.

Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos Airport Police Command, Joseph Alabi who confirmed the development, said nine of the deportees, who were deported for drug-related offences, were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Alabi, said two others, who were deported for criminal offences, were handed over to the police, while the remaining twelve deportees, accused of breaching the country’s immigration rules, were profiled and allowed to go to their respective destinations.

The development is coming on the heels of the deportation of 34 Nigerians variously from Switzerland, Germany, Iceland, Austria, Belgium and Hungary, last week Thursday.

Fifty Nigerians were also deported from Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Luxembourg, Austria, Belgium, Spain and Hungary in April.

About 175 Nigerians also recently voluntarily returned from Libya through the efforts of the Federal Government and the International Migration Organisation, a United Nations body.

Security officials estimate that over 1,500 Nigerians have been deported from various countries around the world in the last one year.
