Police in Lagos State have foiled a kidnap attempt on a popular Pentecostal church bishop and his wife (names withheld) at Isheri Osun in Alimosho Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the suspected kidnappers waylaid the bishop’s convoy, shooting sporadically into the air while making attempt to abduct the clergyman.

Two of the gunmen were said to have come out from their operational vehicle after they had double crossed him, opened his car and attempted to drag him and his wife out of the car.

The suspected kidnappers were, however, taken by surprise as the bishop’s police escort released follies of gunshots, forcing the hoodlums to abandon their targets and escape through a nearby swamp.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, while confirming the incident, stated that the identity of the said bishop would not be disclosed for security reaons.

Owoseni explained that the incident occurred at about 4.30am, saying the bishop and his wife were rescued unhurt while the hoodlums escaped with gunshot injuries.

“What would have been a case of kidnapping and armed robbery was foiled by security operatives attached to the man of God as the bishop and his wife were rescued,” he said.

In another development, Owoseni said a dreaded kidnapper, Timi, popularly known as Big Fish, was killed on Monday at the Ishawo area of the state by members of the Oodua Peoples Congress.

According to him, “We got a distress call that a group of armed robbers were operating at the area and we sent some policemen to the area.

“When our men got there, they discovered that the local vigilante group in the area rose to the challenge and faced the hoodlums squarely. We found the dead body of the kingpin of the hoodlums.

The police commissioner, who paraded 24 suspects involved in various crimes, said that the command also arrested ten teenagers between the ages of 12 and 16 for alleged “school gangsterism.
