Lagos State Government is poised towards improving the impact of emergency/disaster through effective and efficient emergency management.
According to government, this is with the use of CCTV Cameras, establishment of additional dispatched centres and stepping up of Monitoring and Surveillance Unit of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency,LASEMA.
General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Adesina Tiamiyu says over thirteen thousand Cameras will be installed in the major flash points across the State.
Tiamiyu says this means that the Agency, apart from calls from Lagosians to report emergency cases, analysts can adequately monitor from the Command and Control Centre activities across the State to activate emergency response where and when necessary.
The General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, who made this known said the combined efforts could only make Lagos safer.
Also, In a bid to improve the response time of emergency management, Lagos State Government will establishment of additional three Dispatch centres at Lekki, Ikorodu Road and Badagry.
According to government, the estabilishment of additional three Dispatch centres will complement the existing dispatch points located at the LASEMA Response Unit, Cappa Oshodi and the Command and Control Centre, Alausa.
General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Adesina Tiamiyu who made this known, said the agency was stepping up the activities of Monitoring and Surveillance Unit in preventing and mitigating against unnecessary loss of lives and properties in the State.
Tiamiyu said the operation would include monitoring and surveillance activities in domestic, industrial and public facilities in the State which was a paradigm shift from the orthodox strategy of waiting for emergency to occur and then respond.
He said the approach was a practical way to reducing emergency/disasters thereby reducing the huge expenses borne by government on emergency intervention and relief assistance to victims of various emergencies in the State.
Also, Lagos State Government has expressed the need for the general public to partner it in mitigating, preventing and consequently reducing hazards, risks and vulnerability by ensuring distress calls on emerging hazards and risks are relayed to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, through the toll free line 112/767 for prompt intervention.
Government reiterated that the present administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, would not accept back seat or complacency of some individual persons, drivers or organisation which may result to huge material losses and sometimes avoidable fatalities when disaster occur in the State.
According to General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Adesina Tiamiyu, there has been remarkable improvement in the agency’s management of disaster since Governor Ambode assumed office last year.
Tiamiyu attributed the improvement to the reorganisation processes the agency went through as well as the acquisition of equipments, inauguration of the LASEMA Response Unit,LRU, all aimed at enhancing emergency management.
He said the governor’s heavy investment in emergency management was not just to safe lives, but also to attract investments and boost investor’s confidence.
