Ekiti State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Ismaila Kugu, has advised commercial drivers and other stakeholders to install the speed limiting device to avoid being apprehended.

Kugu gave the advice on Monday during a meeting with stakeholders such as commercial drivers and owners of
private school buses at the Corp’s office in Ado-Ekiti.

The stakeholders include National Union of Road Transport, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, school proprietors, Pick-ups and Tippers Cooperative Transporter Union.

He said the meeting was to remind the drivers to make sure they installed the speed limiting device before the enforcement date of Feb. 1.

The commander urged them to comply with the directive, saying the enforcement was not for Ekiti State alone but for the whole country.

He said the corps would start checking vehicles for the device along some of the major roads in the state.

Kugu said any vehicle apprehended would pay a fine of N3, 000, saying the vehicle would not be released until the device was installed.

He gave them the names and addresses of various vendors where they could purchase the device.

One of the vendors at the meeting demonstrated the speed limiting device to the drivers, while some of the tipper drivers who had installed theirs gave their experiences on the use of the device.

The vendor said that the device and the installation would cost N40, 000 for buses.

One of the NURTW members, Sunday Ojo appreciated the efforts of the corps for the enlightenment and appealed to the corps to shift the Feb.1 deadline for more people to comply.
