National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) says it has empowered 60 victims of trafficking in the North-West Zone in 2016.
The NAPTIP Zonal Commander, Shehu Umar, said the victims were trained in various skills including tailoring, interior decoration, catering, among others, saying the agency with the support of a non-governmental organisation would soon provide working tools to the empowered victims.
Umar said the command had also organised six sensitisation programmes on radio to keep the public informed on the need to fight against any form of trafficking, saying the command also held seven television programmes, conducted sensitisation tour of six secondary schools and paid advocacy visit to stakeholders in Kano, Kaduna and Katsina States.
He called for more support from wealthy individuals and corporate organisations in order to address the issues surrounding human trafficking in the country.
