Federal Road Safety Commission,FRSC, has urged motorists to adopt defensive driving as the harmattan haze persisted across some South East states.
Zonal Commanding Officer, Samuel Obayemi, said the development calls for motorists to be very cautious due to poor visibility.
Obayemi, who is in-charge of Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States, said motorists should be patient on the road due to poor visibility caused by the haze, saying this was not the time to overtake or speed unnecessary in bends or road exchanges due to poor visibility.
According to him, the development calls for patience among road users, especially motorists, saying this patience should make drivers to adopt defensive pattern of driving that by its nature reduces speed and manoeuvrability on the road.
The commanding officer also urged motorists to put their vehicles in order and avoid night journeys, saying due to the present poor visibility, motorists are expected to drive, putting their headlamps and rear lights on.
He said these lights would aid visibility both for the driver and another driver in an up-coming vehicle.
Motorists could hardly see clearly an object of about fifty metres especially in the morning and evening hours in the zone.
