Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, says the ongoing joint operations by armed forces has significantly degraded the capabilities of the Boko Haram terrorists in the North East.

Olonisakin made the declaration on Monday in Abuja when he declared open a five-day “Advance Joint Operations Planning Course’’ organised for personnel drawn from the Nigerian Army, Air Force and Navy by the Defence Intelligence College.

Represented by the Chief of Administration, Defence Headquarters, Rear Admiral Andrew Dacosta, the Chief of Defence Staff said the current trend in modern warfare had brought to the fore the need for joint operations.

Olonisakin, however, said that notwithstanding those achievements, the defence headquarters had reviewed some past and ongoing operations and identified some gaps in the planning and execution of those operations.

He said the gaps had informed the need to build operational capacity to plan and execute joint operations.
