Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team,DSVRT, has urged stakeholders to eradicate all forms of violence against women and children in the country.
Team coordinator, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said in Lagos that collective efforts by government at all levels would help in eliminating violence against women.
The United Nations General Assembly has designated November twenty-five as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women,Resolution 54/134.
The premise of the day is to raise awareness of the fact that women around the world are subject to rape, domestic violence and other forms of violence
One of the aims of the day is to highlight that the scale and true nature of the issue is often hidden.
Vivour-Adeniyi said addressing sexual and gender-based violence was a collective responsibility, and it was no longer a movement for women, but for everyone, saying more than ever, Nigerian women were now seen to occupy leadership positions in their various fields and careers.
According to her, the rise of women to lead several professional male-dominated environments gives us hope, and their achievement is a pointer to the capability of the Nigerian women.
She also advised women to speak up whenever they were having challenges, saying women should be encouraged to speak up when they witness events of violence.
