Present leadership of the Nigeria Police Force will not condone any act that is capable of giving the force a bad name.
To this end, officers are to desist from any action or inaction that is capable of denting the image of the force.
This actions include improper dressing, violation of people’s right, corruption, torture or any other inappropriate behaviour that is detrimental to modern policing.
Assistant-Inspector General of Police, Zone two, Abdul-Majid Ali, spoke at the beginning of a three-day training programme organised by the Nigerian Police in partnership with an NGO, Nigerians Unite Against Terror at Onikan, Lagos.
Ali who spoke at the programme which has as its theme: “Human Rights and Police-Citizens Relations, said people had mixed feelings and different perspectives of the Nigeria Police and urged the officers to strive to restore people’s trust and confidence.
According to him, the training will ensure officers abide by the ethics and code of conduct of the Nigerian Police.
In her welcome address, convener of the programme, Joe Okei-Odumakin, said the training would ensure officers do not violate the rights of the citizens, saying the meeting was therefore targeted at generalising the relationship, so citizens and police would live on the same page of policing with integrity.
Odumakin, whose address was delivered by the Treasurer of NUAT, Veronica Isioma, said the training would fulfil the mission of the Inspector General of Police in the effective policing and protection of citizens’ human rights.
The training is for Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) officers on human rights and citizens relationship.
The training is holding simultaneously at the twelve police zonal commands across the federation.
