Federal Road Safety Corps, Badagry Unit, says abandoned vehicles and reckless driving contribute largely to accidents on the Badagry-Seme expressway.

Unit Commander, Fatai Bakare, said in Badagry that one of the infractions drivers on the route were often apprehended for was reckless driving, saying abandoned vehicles on the side of the Seme expressway was also a major cause of accidents on that route due to reckless driving of many motorists.

Bakare said Badagry was a border area so there was high vehicular movement in the axis, many of them tend to drive recklessly and this causes accidents in the area, saying overloading was another frequent traffic offence, but the command carries out various enlightenment programmes to advise the public on the need to desist from such practices.

According to him, officials are always located at strategic places to check and correct traffic offenders so as to limit all forms of traffic violations, saying the commission had provided the necessary tools for its officers to effectively perform their duties.

Bakare said acquilizers, patrol vehicles, amongst others, have been provided for the command to discharge its duties effectively; and most importantly, they have staff strength, saying the use of acquilizers had reduced the cases of drunk driving while advising drivers not to drink while driving and vice versa.

He said officials were always located at the Badagry roundabout all day so as to control traffic at that area to ease the pain of motorists who ply the road regularly, advising motorists to always check their tyres and ensure they have the correct pressure gauge before embarking on any journey.
