President, Muhammadu Buhari has told World leaders that corruption freezes development and undermines the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and must be fought to a standstill.
He presented Nigeria’s statement at the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA71) in New York, with the theme, “Sustainable Development Goals: A Universal Push to Transform the World.”
President Buhari restated that “fighting corruption remains a cardinal pillar” of the current administration and the campaign has started yielding positive dividends.
He also spoke on measures to reduce the cost of governance and increase expenditure on infrastructure and ensure environmental best practices.
The President was commended on his efforts in dealing with the Boko Haram and called for enhanced international cooperation to defeat the global scourge of terrorism.
He added that Nigeria is ready to serve Africa and the world on a reformed Security Council to advance international peace and security.
On day three of the 71st UNGA, the President joins other world leaders to mark the first anniversary of the adoption of the 2030 Agenda and the sustainable development Goals.
