Against the backdrop of claims of infiltration of armed groups in Lagos, Lagos State Police Command says security agencies have put strategies in place to prevent such infiltration.
The command says strategies being put in place to prevent armed groups from infiltrating the state include proactive measures such as constant raids on dark spots and criminal hide outs as well as random checks at entry points into the state.
Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni says it is important security agencies do not allow any form of armed groups to come into the state before reacting, urging all law abiding citizens to continue to go about their legitimate business without fear of molestation.
According to Owoseni, the command is proud of Lagosians and people of Lagos for their support in terms of information giving and funds through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
Owoseni says at least two armed robbers have been killed and fifteen others arrested in the last seven days across Lagos.
According to Owoseni, the suspects, who rode on motorcycles and waylaid bank customers, were nabbed at Festac, Egbeda and the Lekki-Ajah axis of the state, saying the dead robbers were killed during gun duel with police.
He said a Beratta and two locally made pistols, a motorcycle remodified by the hoodlums for increased speed, and four cartridges were recovered from them, saying charms, six women handbags, seven Automated Teller Machine cards, three razor blades and several identity cards were also found in their custody, some of which have been returned to their identified owners.
Owoseni, who described the menace posed by the robbers as worrisome, stated that the command was bent on putting a stop to the practice.
One of the suspects, Monday Joseph, denied being a robber, insisting that he was arrested alongside his friend, Monday Korede.
Joseph, who later admitted to have robbed before, claimed he stopped the act and became a bus conductor, insisted they were victims of circumstance.
