New Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Ahmed Iliasu, on Thursday promised to improve the security situation in the state and advised criminals to steer clear of the state.

Iliasu said this while addressing Officers ‎of the Command at the Officers’ Mess in Abeokuta, saying there would be no room for hoodlums to perpetrate their nefarious activities in the state.

The commissioner, who had since assumed duty, ‎said all necessary measures were being put in place to flush out suspected militants who had been terrorising some parts of the state in the past few months.

He sought for collaboration of all stakeholders in making the state a safe haven.

“We want to raise the security we met to another level. We want to make the state safer and more secured more than ever before.

“We are here to serve the people of Ogun State and we are here to secure all the political, economic and social institutions.

“I am urging every citizens of the state, public institutions, religious organisations and even donor agencies and Non-Governmental Organisations to partner with us, ‘’ he said.

The commissioner said the command would carry out sting operations on the militants, adding that detailed report on their activities had been made available to him.

In his remark, the former Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, said the state under his watch, had experienced a reduction in crime.

Ali, who is now the Assistant Inspector of General, Zone 2, comprising Lagos and Ogun, said he would coordinate the states under his coverage area effectively well to further stamp out crime.

“I am aware of the security challenges and I want to assure the people that plans are underway to flush out criminals and hoodlums that are disturbing the peace of the state.

“We will make sure that peace and tranquility continue to reign in the state. I will ensure that I coordinate effectively all the states that are now under my command,” he said.

He visited the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, immediately after assuming duties at the command.

The new police commissioner assured that he would show total commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state.

Alli, who formally introduced his successor to the governor, said the new commissioner was very hardworking and a no-nonsense police officer.

The new AIG Zone 2 therefore warned hoodlums terrorizing the riverine areas of the state of an impending routing coming by the action of the new police commissioner.

He declared that his priority as the AIG in charge of Ogun and Lagos states was “keeping our waterways safe for the people”.

Governor Amosun said the state won’t be a fertile ground for hoodlums and criminal-minded elements.

Amosun noted that the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in the state “won’t be surrendered to hoodlums and criminal-minded elements disturbing the people located at the coastal areas.

“I want to say Ogun State is still and would remain a no-comfort zone for criminals. We won’t accept what some people are doing in the riverine areas presently,” he said.

The governor praised the AIG for ensuring that Ogun remained peaceful, and saluted his professionalism and competence, stressing that the new AIG’s promotion was well deserved.
