Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, is set to bring back normalcy to the North East by taking over the liberated areas, provide security at the IDP Camps entry and exit points in order to restore confidence in the people of government presence.
Commandant General, Abdullahi Muhammadu made this declaration in his office at the National Headquarters Abuja, during the visit of GERARD Le MER , the Interior Security Attache at the France Embassy.
Muhammadu said the Civil Defence apart from involving in the protection of lives and properties, was the lead Agency in the protection of Critical Infrastructure and National Assets in Nigeria.
According to him, the Corps have recorded significant achievements in curbing the acts of vandalism, illegal bunkery, and stemming the tide of illegal refineries within a record time of its establishment.
He said the Corps as a critical stakeholder in Disaster Management have already deployed 2,300 Personnel to the North East while 2,700 shall be joining them soon having a total 5,000 strong NSCDC Personnel to mount the entry and exit points of the cities, to re-assure the victims of the insurgency that peace has returned to their communities and that they are free to return to their various homes, with the security architecture put in place to protect them.
The NSCDC Leader further acknowledged, that the visit of the France Emissary will aid in the discussion on the modalities of training of personnel on civil protection and equipment support , to enhance the performance of the Corps in discharging of her mandate in disaster management and repositioning of the Private Guards Company to assist the NSCDC and other Security Agencies on information gathering at the grassroots level.
The representative of the France Embassy, GERARD Le MER said the embassy is poised to collaborate with the Corps in the area of training and possibly to arrange a visit of the Commandant General to France and most importantly information and intelligence sharing.
GERARD highlighted, that as the Interior Security Attache at the embassy, he was pleased with the role of the NSCDC in the protection of Critical Infrastructure, and as such the Corps needs to be supported with modern technologies for effective monitoring and operations.
The Attache really applauded that the presence of the Corps Personnel in the North East and assured of his countries support in tackling the perennial problem, disclosing that the France Ambassador according to him, just returned from the North East on inspection of the area ravaged by the Boko Haram insurgents.
