Nigeria Police is soliciting the support and collaboration of the Nigerian Navy in enhancing security for the nation especially in the Niger-Delta region.
Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris gave the indication on Wednesday,when he paid a courtesy visit to the Navy Headquarters,in Abuja.
Ibrahim who stressed the need for the Navy to assist the police carry out its operations successfully in the Niger-Delta region explained that the force also requires aid in the area of training of its personnel.
Responding, the Chief of Naval staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas assured the police of continuous support not only in the area of man power development but also in technical trainings.
The CNS however expressed concern at the delay in prosecution of the long list of offenders and criminal cases in the custody of the Police,while urging the IGP to ensure that arrested offenders are speedily prosecuted.
Meanwhile the CNS disclosed that plans are in d offing to re-enforce operations and ensure the nigerian maritime space remains free of criminals so as to allow for legitimate maritime activities in the country.
