President Muhammadu Buhari has called on the Niger Delta Avengers and all those calling for the break up of the country, that the unity of the nation is not negotiable and to keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done.

Buhari made call while speaking at the Presidential Villa when residents of the Federal Capital Territory led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo paid a Sallah homage after the Eid prayers in Abuja.

According to him, his administration has made a lot of improvement in the fight against Boko Haram in the Northeast, describing the actions of the Niger Delta Avengers as uncalled for.

He said his administration was making concerted effort to reach out to the leadership of the militants in the Niger Delta Region to persuade them to give peace a chance.

Buhari assured that justice would be done to the people of the Niger Delta Region and further called on those who stole public funds to return them in peace so that his administration will work with it.

But Buhari said the slogan used in the 1960s “Go On With One Nigeria (GOWON),” is very apt now as keeping Nigeria one is a task that must be done.

Noting that there is a lot of improvement on security in the Northeast in the last one year, he said the attention now is on the Niger Delta region.

Stressing that there are several problems in the country, he said the Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, is working very hard with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria to ensure that about 13 states start rice production.

He said the programme is a good initiative ‎with many farmers already returning to the field.

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who noted that the period was a time for forgiveness of sin, said the past one year has been tough.

He insisted that the administration was busy clearing the mess it met on ground.
