In a bid to quell the leadership crisis rocking Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Nigeria Police has convened a meeting with all stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP.
The meeting convened by the police was aimed at finding a lasting solution to the protracted crisis rocking the party.
Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase who made this, called for peace among the parties, particularly Senator Ali Modu Sherif and Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
Arase appealed to the politicians to help in educating their followers on the need to act and conduct themselves within the ambit of the law, saying the Police would not relent in its mandate to protect lives and property without fear or favour.
According to him, the meeting comes hours after some youths of the Peoples Democratic Party supporting the leadership of Ali Modu Sheriff invaded the National Headquarters of the PDP.
Sheriff is the factional Chairman of the party who took over its affairs earlier this week.
They have clashed at least three times with other Youth groups who are supporters of Ahmed Makarfi.
Makarfi is the Chairman of the caretaker committee appointed by PDP’s Board of Trustees (BoT) to take care of the affairs of the party.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP had commenced series of meetings aimed at resolving the internal crisis that threatens the unity of the party.
PDP Governors elected have insisted that Sheriff was not the chairman of the party, saying they would not recognise Sheriff as the leader of the party.
