Yayi, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District, also pledged to ensure the new General Hospital is completed and commissioned before his proposed swearing-in as governor of Ogun State 29th May, 2027.
He made the promise on during the gathering tagged Community Development Practitioners and Stakeholders’ meeting with community leaders and other critical stakeholders in Obafemi Owode, where he received a document outlining the development challenges facing the local government.
The senator, who assured the people that their concerns would receive attention, said the road and hospital projects were among the issues he had identified for immediate intervention.
He specifically announced that construction work on the Ofada-Owode Road would begin next week, adding that work would also commence on the new Owode General Hospital within the same period.
Describing the proposed hospital as a three-storey facility, Yayi said contractors and project managers had been mobilised for the project, which he promised would meet international standards.
He further assured the stakeholders that the hospital would be completed and commissioned before 29th May, 2027, when he is expected to be sworn in as governor of Ogun State.
The senator said the stakeholders’ document, presented by the Chairman of the Obafemi Owode Zonal Community Development Committee, Engineer Gboyega Adeleke had been categorised into three areas: issues requiring immediate attention, those to be addressed in the medium term and long-term development challenges.
According to Adeleke, the categorisation would enable Yayi to address the concerns systematically and ensure that issues requiring urgent intervention were not delayed.
Yayi also pledged to work closely with Community Development Committees (CDCs) and Community Development Associations (CDAs), describing their participation as crucial to delivering development at the grassroots.
He said the large turnout at the meeting demonstrated the people’s support and confidence in his leadership, assuring them that they would not be disappointed.
The senator described Obafemi Owode as a strategically important local government, citing its location, size and economic potential, as well as its relevance to the overall development of Ogun State.
He noted that the local government was particularly important because of its strategic position among border communities and its potential contribution to the state’s internally generated revenue.
Yayi recalled the support he received from the people of Obafemi Owode during the 2023 elections, when, according to him, they delivered more than 4,000 votes in his favour despite the challenges at the time.
He said the relationship between him and the people should be built on a partnership that delivers tangible results, stressing that he could not afford to neglect the local government.
He also promised that work on the Bisodun road would start before the end of November.
Yayi, outlined his achievements and his agenda for the 2027 governorship election.
He said Obafemi Owode’s location on the border with Lagos made it a strong candidate for major infrastructure investment under his nine-pillar ITESIWAJU Agenda, if elected.
“Under our administration, Ogun State’s development will receive adequate attention, particularly in border communities. We must compete with Lagos, and because of the strategic location of Obafemi Owode, emphasis will be placed on this local government.
“I want to assure you that this local government will not be left out in federal and state appointments,” said Yayi.
He supported the creation of Ofada as a separate local government out of Obafemi Owode, saying it would bring governance closer to the people and speed up development.
He added that a proposed Border Town Development Authority would accelerate development in border communities.
He said his administration’s performance would be measured by implementation of the ITESIWAJU Agenda, and that he was determined to turn the state’s 20 local government areas into centres of development and prosperity.
Speaking on the purpose of the stakeholders’ meeting, the Zonal Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Engr. Gboyega Adeleke, said Adeola organised the engagement to interact directly with grassroots leaders and community representatives across Obafemi Owode Local Government.
Adeleke said the meeting provided an opportunity for the senator to present his vision and programmes to the people, while also allowing community leaders to raise questions and communicate their development priorities directly to him.
He explained that the Zonal CDC had mobilised Community Development Committee (CDC) chairmen and other representatives from across the local government, which has more than 2,700 communities, to participate in the meeting.
According to him, the engagement was particularly significant because it allowed the people to discuss critical issues, including insecurity, poor road infrastructure, electricity and the state of healthcare facilities, directly with the incoming administration.
Adeleke said the community leaders had also submitted a comprehensive document detailing development projects across their communities, with priorities classified according to those requiring attention before the election, within two years and within four years.
He disclosed that the demands included the rehabilitation of roads, provision of transformers, completion and takeover of community-built health centres, as well as the construction and rehabilitation of access and internal roads.
He added that Adeola had promised to complete the other lane of the Mowe-Ofada Road within one month of assuming office, describing the proposed intervention as one of the key demands contained in the community’s document.
The Zonal CDC chairman said the communities were not expecting the government to undertake every project alone, stressing that they were willing to partner with the incoming administration and contribute to development initiatives within their capacity.
Adeleke described the meeting as an unprecedented opportunity for grassroots representatives to engage directly with a governorship candidate, expressing confidence in Adeola’s commitment to the development of the local government.
He said the community leaders were prepared to work with him and support his electoral ambition, adding that the presence of traditional rulers, community leaders and other political stakeholders underscored the importance attached to the engagement.
