President Bola Tinubu has approved an 18-month extension of the tenures of the heads of the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service.

The extension means the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Nwakuche, will remain in office until 26th May 2028, while the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, will serve until 30th June 2028.

The development was announced in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the approval followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address a succession gap in both services and give the relevant board sufficient time to appoint successors.

President Tinubu commended the two service chiefs for the reforms recorded under their leadership and charged them to consolidate the gains.

Nwakuche was nominated by Tinubu as Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service in December 2024, with the Senate confirming his appointment in March 2025.

Nandap was nominated as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service on 21st February 2024, and her appointment was confirmed by the Senate on 1st March 2024.
