Former Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has called on family, friends, associates and well-wishers to mark his birthday with prayers, acts of charity and a renewed commitment to peace and national development.

Egbetokun, who celebrates his birthday, expressed gratitude to Almighty God for the gift of life, the opportunity to serve and the blessings bestowed on him, his family and the people he has encountered throughout his years of service.

In his birthday message, the former police chief urged his loved ones to remember him and his family in their prayers, seeking divine guidance, protection, wisdom, good health and strength for the years ahead.

He also called for special prayers for Nigeria, urging citizens to pray for an end to insecurity, terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, violence and other threats confronting communities across the country.

According to him, Nigeria requires collective prayers, wisdom, unity and responsible leadership to overcome its challenges and harness its enormous human and natural resources for the benefit of all citizens.

Egbetokun further urged Nigerians to pray for leaders at all levels of government, as well as security personnel serving across the country and risking their lives to protect citizens.

He said particular attention should also be given to young people, children, families and vulnerable Nigerians, expressing hope for greater economic opportunities, social justice, unity and prosperity.

‘Turn My Birthday Gifts Into Acts of Kindness’
Rather than receiving elaborate gifts or having money spent on birthday celebrations in his honour, the former IGP appealed to friends and well-wishers to channel such resources towards helping people in need.

He encouraged them to support struggling families, provide food and educational materials for children, assist people requiring medical care and extend help to widows, orphans, the elderly and other vulnerable members of society.

He said every act of kindness, no matter how small, could become a source of hope and relief to someone facing difficult circumstances.

“If you wish to spend money to mark my birthday, please let that money become food on someone’s table, hope in someone’s heart and relief to someone facing difficult circumstances,” he said.

Egbetokun described birthdays as opportunities not only to celebrate life but also to reflect on one’s journey and renew commitment to service and humanity.

He expressed appreciation to everyone who had sent birthday messages, made calls, offered prayers or extended goodwill, stressing that his greatest birthday gift this year was prayers rather than material presents.

He prayed that the new year of his life would bring renewed strength, greater opportunities to serve humanity and increased impact, while asking Nigerians to continue praying for peace, unity and prosperity in the country.

“Please pray for me and my family. Pray for our nation. Pray for peace in our communities. Pray for those who are struggling. And where possible, extend a helping hand to someone in need,” he appealed.

He concluded by asking Almighty God to bless families, protect Nigeria and grant the country enduring peace, unity and prosperity.
