The Lagos State Government has provided holistic support to 33,009 survivors of Domestic and Sexual Violence through the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) between September 2021 and July 2026.

Also, the State commemorates five years of interventions and officially unveils activities for the 2026 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month.

The disclosure at a Media Parley organised by DSVA to flag off the 2026 Awareness Month.

Speaking at the event, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN, highlighted the State’s continued commitment to preventing violence, protecting survivors and ensuring perpetrators are held accountable.

Over the five-year period, DSVA provided free legal support to 175 survivors, accommodated 40 survivors requiring immediate safety, provided psychosocial support to survivors, perpetrators and children, conducted 501 rescue operations, secured 20 restraining orders, financially supported the investigation and prosecution of 464 SGBV-related cases, while over 711 cases were charged to court and over 160 convictions were secured.

The State also recorded significant prevention and awareness interventions in the last year, directly reaching an estimated 1.96 million residents across the 20 Local Government Areas through sensitisation campaigns, school and community engagements, alongside strengthened access to services through new sub-offices, the reintroduction of the USSD shortcode and the ASK INU WhatsApp Chat Bot.

Speaking on the 2026 Awareness Month, the Executive Secretary of DSVA, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said this year’s theme, “SGBV – IT ENDS WITH US,” calls for personal and collective responsibility in preventing Domestic and Sexual Violence.

Activities throughout September include Turn Lagos Purple, Turn Alausa Purple, Survivors’ Day, Advocacy Walk, Safeguarding and Child Protection Week, Market Fiesta, Professional Capacity-Building Trainings, the National Convening of GBV State Coordinators, the launch of the Lagos State GBV Prevention Policy, and the Governor’s Commendation and Awards Night.

The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to building a Lagos where fewer people experience violence, survivors have timely access to safety, support and justice, and perpetrators are held accountable.
