The Nigeria Police Force has stepped up engagement with election observers and other critical stakeholders as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful, secure and credible governorship election in Osun State.

Earlier on Friday, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Iniedu, held an interactive session with election observers from the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), led by its National Chairman, Mogaji Olaniyan.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the police and the observers to exchange views on the security arrangements for the election, with emphasis on strengthening cooperation, information sharing and public confidence throughout the electoral process.

CSP Iniedu reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to maintaining a professional, impartial and people-oriented approach to election security.

He stressed the importance of collaboration with community-based stakeholders in identifying potential security concerns and addressing them promptly.

The PCRC delegation, in turn, underscored the critical role of community engagement and independent observation in promoting peaceful participation and ensuring that voters, electoral officials, observers and other stakeholders can discharge their responsibilities without intimidation or disruption.

The engagement also highlighted the need for citizens to comply with electoral laws and security directives, while encouraging observers to maintain objectivity and report incidents through appropriate channels.

As Osun State prepares to go to the polls, the police assured stakeholders that adequate security measures are being implemented to protect lives and property, safeguard the electoral process and create an enabling environment for citizens to exercise their democratic rights.

The Force said continued dialogue with the PCRC, election observers, civil society organisations and other stakeholders would remain essential to achieving a peaceful and credible election.

The meeting further reinforced the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to working with communities and relevant partners before, during and after the election to preserve public order and strengthen confidence in the democratic process.
