Lagos State Police Command says a video making rounds on social media showing Fulani men arrested with arms in Ikorodu is an old recording from over three years ago.
The Command stressed that the clip does not represent the present security situation in Ikorodu or any other part of Lagos.
According to the Command, sharing the outdated footage as a current incident is misleading and can spark needless fear among residents.
It urged the public to ignore the video and stop circulating unverified content.
The police also warned social media users and content creators that anyone found deliberately spreading fake or alarmist news will face investigation and prosecution under the law.
CP Tijani Fatai has meanwhile ordered stronger deployment of officers and operational resources to crime-prone areas, key locations, and all entry/exit points in Lagos.
The operation, done in partnership with other security agencies, is meant to keep residents and visitors safe.
The Command also called on the public to stay alert and provide timely, credible information on suspicious movements to help prevent crime.
This is contained in a statement made available to newsmen by Police Public Relations Officer SP Abimbola Adebisi.
