A total of two hundred and twenty-eight drug offenders have been arrested from various locations in Lagos State.

The drug offenders arrested by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency comprised of two hundred and four males and twenty-four females.

According to its Lagos State Command, out of the said number, one hundred and forty-five were found to be drug dealers who had been charged to court for prosecution.

Its Commander, Barrister Ralph Igwenagu said the remaining eighty-three who were found to be users were counseled and released.

The Commander said this while rolling out the commands achievements in the last quarter of the year.

He says a total of five thousand seven hundred and forty-three point three kilograms over five tones of various illicit drugs have been seized by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

According to him, the drugs including; cannabis sativa, cocaine, heroin, tramadol, rohypnol, diazepam, methamphetamine, extol, among others were seized by its Lagos State Command in the last quarter of the year.

He says the command also secured the conviction of seventeen drug offenders at the Federal High Court, Lagos comprising of sixteen males and one female with various degrees of jail terms.

Igwenagu said during the period, the command carried out counseling sessions for a total of eighty-three drug users comprising of seventy-nine males and four females successfully and reunited them with their families.

He said the command is carrying out rehabilitation of four drug dependent persons in its rehabilitation facility and they are responding positively to the process.

The command, according to him, however observed with dismay the alarming increase in the number of mothers (women) involved in drug activities in the state which portends a great danger to health upbringing of our youths.

With the resumption of academic actitivities across the state, at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels, parents and teachers, he urged to pay attention to their children and wards to ensure that they are not lured into drug activities.

The Commander appreciate the Lagos State Government and the good people of lagos state, sister security agencies as well as the media for their continuous support to the state command.

He urge all lagosians to continue to assist the command by providing credible information of drug activities in their neighborhoods together we will reduce the menace of drug abuse in Lagos State to the barest minimum.
