“When I assumed duty as the commissioner of police, I met a very robust operation to cover the deployment for the security personnel during the election come this Saturday. The role of security personnel during the election is very simple, they are meant to ensure that there is safe and secured environment for electorate to cast their votes without any fear of intimidation from anyone and to ensure that those at the polling centers are not molested.
“Our major role in the electoral processes starts with providing security to INEC officials and to guide them from being molested as well as maintaining orderliness in all the polling centers and to ensure that everything goes on well, security wise.
“Our role is also to ensure that electoral materials are safe during and after the elections. We are also to ensure that everything go on well when they are announcing the results of the election because when the results are being announced , some parties will be jubilating while the ones that lose may want to make trouble, so we must be ready to calm the situation in such occurrence.
“We are also expected to conduct diligent investigation on all electoral contenders and be ready to be available to give evidence where those people will be charged.
It may also be expected of us to be at the various election tribunals that may be held after. This is going to be a joint effort of the Nigerian police and other security agencies.
According to the Commissioner “No stone will be left unturned in securing Lagos and in making it peaceful for everybody.
There will be personnel on standby units at the various headquarters so as to ensure that there is no breach of peace.
“We assure you that when you go round on the Election Day, you will find at least a policeman and other security agents at gracious polling booth,” he said.
