Lagos State Police Command is ready to partner with the Lagos State Citizens’ Mediation Centre to engender faster prosecution of suspects and justice delivery in the State.

According to the Command, this is because the activities of the Centre is pivotal to that of the police, saying most civil cases could easily be handled faster by referral to the Centres spread across the State while the Command focuses more on criminal matters.

Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgar said the command was deploying community policing while also incorporating informal policing and inclusion of different socio-cultural groups in the State.

He said all Police formations within the State would be directed to work with the Centre unit nearest to them, stressing that issues inimical to the peace and progress of the State will be nipped in the bud.

On her part, the Director, Oluwatoyin Odusanya congratulated the Commissioner on his promotion, while expressing the readiness of the Centre to collaborate with the Police in Lagos in ensuring peaceful coexistence among residents in the State.

Odusanya said the maintenance of peace and order in any community starts with the peaceful and amicable resolution of disputes before they degenerate into violence.

She noted that going by the rising number of issues being brought to the Centre on a monthly basis which range between four thousand to five thousand, residents in Lagos State have come to embrace mediation because it is faster, less cumbersome and at no cost to parties.
